A New Era Begins: My Vision for Dark Matter’s Future

It was wonderful to catch up with many of you at our Horizon user conference. For those of you who didn’t make it this year, we hope to see you next year.

As I step into the role of CEO at Dark Matter Technologies, I’m energized by the opportunity to guide this exceptional company into a new chapter of innovation and client-focused growth. You—our clients—remain central to that mission.

Having worked closely with my predecessor, Rich Gagliano, for more than 14 years, I am both proud and humbled to carry forward the strong foundation we built together. Our vision for company culture remains consistent, rooted in integrity, collaboration and a shared passion for solving the industry’s toughest challenges.

But this moment also represents an inflection point. The road ahead will be defined by strategic evolution, simplification and an unwavering commitment to helping you thrive.

What I Bring to the Table

If you heard me speak at Horizon, you know that we are focusing on four main pillars of success in 2025 — value, growth, simplification and relationships. Whether you’re a loan officer, underwriter or IT administrator, I believe technology should make your job easier, not more complicated.

That’s why we’re reimagining the user experience across our platforms. We’re redesigning our most commonly used screens, streamlining administrative workflows and implementing exception-based processing powered by AI. The goal? To reduce manual touchpoints, eliminate friction and free your team to focus on higher-value activities.

  • Value: We will deliver products and services that solve real problems and drive meaningful outcomes. We will continuously enhance our platforms based on direct feedback from our clients, who use them every day.
  • Growth: We aim to support your growth by continually improving our products and services. Whether it’s expanding your product suite or increasing operational efficiency, our success is tied to yours.
  • Simplification: We believe technology should make your life easier. In 2025, we’re focused on removing friction, streamlining workflows, and making every interaction with Dark Matter simpler, faster, and more intuitive.
  • Relationships: Everything we do at Dark Matter is based on relationships. Our company focuses on technology, but business is done with people. We’re deeply engaged with our clients daily through regular communication, advisory councils and open feedback loops. Your input shapes our roadmap, and your success is our north star.

I will hold myself accountable and ask those around me to do the same. I’m committed to transparency — not just in how we work, but in what we aim to deliver, when, and how. This approach will empower you to hold us accountable to the goals we set, the innovations we promise and the outcomes we commit to achieving.

A New Approach for a New Era

Our recent migration to Amazon Web Services (AWS) was more than just a technical milestone — it was a declaration of intent. We’ve left behind legacy infrastructure and embraced a future built on scalability, resilience, and continuous innovation. This move positions us to deliver faster updates, improved performance, and a more agile development environment — exactly what our clients need in a fast-changing market. Personally, leading this migration was one of the most complex and rewarding efforts of my entire career. Moving all of our clients and their data to the cloud was a tremendous challenge, but our team completed it three months ahead of schedule and with zero disruption to any client. That’s a rare achievement, and one I’m incredibly proud of.

Another milestone in our transformation is the introduction of the Developer Portal, which was unveiled at our Horizon conference. This marks a shift from a historically closed architecture to an open API ecosystem that supports better two-way data synchronization. It’s a game changer, particularly for our larger lenders who are constantly optimizing operations. This new approach unlocks more flexibility and integration opportunities. As we evolve, our AI strategy is also maturing. We’re focused on use cases that drive automation and lower the cost to originate, not chasing trends, but delivering tangible value through exception-based processing and intelligent workflows.

From how we analyze internal performance to how we develop new solutions, every move we make is now rooted in actionable data. These past 18 months have been transformative, unlocking new pathways for growth and allowing us to become a more data-driven organization with access to a rich network of software businesses.

Our vision is clear: to provide lenders with a comprehensive, modular technology ecosystem tailored to their unique needs. Whether you’re a large financial institution or a nimble independent lender, we have a solution that fits.

Staying Agile in a Shifting Landscape

The mortgage industry continues to face headwinds, from rising interest rates to ongoing consolidation. At Dark Matter, we see these not as challenges but as opportunities. We plan to be an active participant in industry consolidation, but with a different approach. Unlike traditional models that force newly acquired technologies onto customers, we’ll remain committed to optionality. Lenders deserve choices, not mandates.

We’re also continuing to work with key industry partners like ICE Mortgage Technology and Optimal Blue, because we believe collaboration, not competition, is the path to real innovation.

Dark Matter Technologies is at a pivotal moment. We’re not just adapting to change. We’re helping define it. With the right mix of innovative technology, client-centric thinking, and a culture of collaboration, we’re building something truly unique.

To our clients: Thank you for your continued trust. We’re excited about where we’re headed and even more excited to take that journey with you.

This is just the beginning of our evolution together.
